First Golf I saw . . . .

Pop's Mk1 1600 GTI, 1984

What happened to it?
It was sold in 1985 to make way for an Open Manta GTE!

First Golf I owned . . . .

Mk1 1.6 GTI

 

Spec:
Full body rebuild/respray in Mars red,
Koni super low suspension,
Porsche single choke throttle (massive!),
1600 had stage 2 head (would rev to 7000+),
Later had 1800 fitted (see next car),
Self dismounting exhaust with snap off feature
When I bought it, it had:
Home vinyl roof kit,
BBS arch/skirt kit,
Kamei twin square headlight kit.

What happened to it?
I crashed it into a Land Rover and squashed the front flat in June 1994. Jim bought it off me, welded another front end on it, and run it for about 18 months. He sold it to Dan. Dan smacked it about a bit then sold it on again. It must be dead by now. It was hammered when I first got it. It was a fast car . . . . I bought a 309 GTI after that!

Mk1 1.8 GTI

Spec:
Good 1.8 GTI engine and box.
Huge dent in the side
Race look interior - but with no seats

What happened to it?
It was bought solely for the engine and gearbox for the above Mk1 1600. After they (and some other bits) were removed, it went to Durbers in Doxey. A smalltime breakers. Smalltime enough to want a stripped bare Mk1 shell, with a HUGE dent in the side.

What happened to it?
Got fed up chasing the rust and wiring problems and cut the car in half with a grinder. The good parts were transplanted to my Mk1 16V. The doors, tailgate and bonnet were sold to MayhemnMischief (you know who you are). Whats left over is still at the yard. Two halves of a shitty shell.

Replaced engine and gearbox,

What happened to it?
Done 42k in it and have still got it. Best car I have ever owned. Is in the process of being made over, when its done the results will be posted here . . . . .

Mk2 1.8 GT import

 

Spec:
Import 1992 GT model LHD,
Full GTI spec, but with single point injection / 100ish bhp,
Discs all round,
BBS rims (stolen for previous Mk2),
Half tint backlights!

What happened to it?
I bought it "spares or repairs" super cheap from a guy who lives up the road from me. After a simple repair (driveshaft) I swapped it with my Dad for a Mk2 16V engine box injection and Mk1 16V conversion parts (see next car and this). It passed the MOT no problem and has been running fine for about 12 months now. Mega miles on the clock but still is smooth as glass. Exceptn you change gear with the window winder . . . . .

What happened to it?
I am still building this beast. Ok, so its been taking a while. Since I took posession of this car (from Pops after selling him the LHD GT) it has been treated to: 16V engine, 16V injection/wiring, coilover suspension, 16V discs/master cylinder/servo, wings, front panel, rear panel, inner wing repair, sill repair, arch repair, lots of paint, tailgate repair, rear handles, hatch lock deleted, wiper/washer deleted, badge holes smoothed and shitloads of other work. I'll be glad when this car is finished, it's draining my will to live. It'll be fast though - this configuration in a Mk1 Golf is good for 0-60 in sub 7 seconds and 15 second 1/4 mile. Its loud!

What happened to it?
I was given this car by some geezer in Rugeley. It would drive, but was a bit fucked. I only wanted the tailgate, but that turned out to be fucked too. I sold 100 quid's worth to some guys from London. Then Steve B took it away to be recycled.

Mk2 1.8 GTI 16V

Dennis the Menace interior,
BBS 15" rims,
Stainless Magnex Exhaust,
Dead standard!

What happened to it?
This was bought to be used while my other Mk2 has a rest/gets it's shit on. This car drives well. It is an '86 early 16V with LHD wipers, and quarter windows! DaddyRad is buying it at the end of February when the other car comes back.
